Item #: SCP-1699

Object Class: Safe

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-1699 is to be kept in a 40cm by 25cm by 25cm (40 x 25 x 25) fiberglass box with walls at least 8mm wide. The object is to be wrapped in clear industrial bubble wrap at least 3cm thick before placing into its containment box. The lid of the box is to be secured by four padlocks with separate combinations. The containment box is to be displayed in Site-23. Knowledge of each combination is limited to four separate Level 2 personnel, each having code access to only one of the four padlocks. All four Level 2 personnel must be present for access to the object's containment. No opens flames are permitted within 7m of the object, unless under authorized testing. Any violation of this rule will result in immediate termination.

Description: SCP-1699 is approximately 26 cm in height and 15 cm across. The object is an incense burner sculpted to resemble the head of a dragon. It is made of hollow resin. The inside of the object is coated with an unidentified substance similar to crushed charcoal. At the base of the object's neck, there is a small carving that reads "JR 99", suggesting the object was sculpted in the year 1999, and the otherwise unknown sculptor had the initials "J.R.".

When in an idle and inactive state, the object shows no particular signs of abnormalities. The aid of an open flame being place inside the base of the object causes smoke to emit from the nostrils of the dragon. The description of the scent emitting from the object varies between personnel. As of 08/22/███, the object has been reported to emit the scent of lavender, vanilla, blueberries, laundry detergent and freshly baked cookies. The inhalation of the smoke by a single personnel shows no results. The inhalation of the smoke by two personnel results in instant merging of the two personnel's conscious minds. It is confirmed that the personnel do not swap conscious minds, but gain the other person's conscious mind in addition to their own. The two personnel are able to simultaneously share thoughts, emotions, and personal feelings.

Acquisition log: Object was recovered from a fortune teller's gift shop in ████████ , Ukraine. When asked about the object, the fortune teller responded,

"Your eyes have led you to this fate, behold the aroma to end all hate. The flick of a lick, glowing bright inside. A merging of souls, this dragon provides."

The teller then proceeded to make the sale without another spoken word.

Experiment Log 1699-1: 03/05/███: Two (2) Level 1 personnel were selected for this testing. They're had been reported hostile tension between the subjects prior to testing with SCP-1699. Upon inhalation of the smoke emitting from the object, the two personnel proceeded to apologize profusely, and then hugged for several minutes. All hostile activity between the two personnel has since ceased. Post recordings of this successful testing has deemed SCP-1699 the nickname, "The Dragon of Sorrow".

Experiment Log 1699-2: 3/08/███: Two (2) D-Class personnel were selected for second testing. One (D-Class-1) was a convicted child molester. The other (D-Class-2) was convicted of first degree murder, but during interrogations, claimed to had been molested as a child. Upon inhalation of the smoke emitting from the object, the D-Class-1 began to apologize, however, D-Class-2 proceeded to pick up SCP-1699 and continuously strike D-Class-1 several times over the head until he was apprehended by security personnel. SCP-1699 attained no damage from the incident.

Experiment Log 1699-3: 4/15/███: Three (3) D-Class personnel were selected for this testing. Each personnel possessed a different religious belief. The three religions in question included Christianity, Buddhism, and Atheism. Upon inhalation of the object's smoke, there was at first a moment of extended silence. The personnel then proceeded to question each other about each of their religious beliefs. The personnel carried this conversation for approximately thirty-four minutes. Personnel were then escorted out of room.

Audio log from Interview 1699-3:

Interviewer: Dr. ███
Interviewed: D-Class personnel - Atheist (Referred to as D-Class-3 for this log)
Subject: Test 1699-3

<Begin Log 2:43PM>

Dr. ███: Hello Mr. ████████, how are you feeling today?

D-Class-3: Pretty good, I guess.

Dr. ███: Can you tell me about what went down in that room?

D-Class-3: Well, we all sniffed the smoke coming out of that lizard. Then, some really weird shit happened.

Dr. ███: Could you describe in detail what happened?

D-Class-3: We all kind of...read each other's minds I guess. Come to find out that those guys had different religions. One of them was a Christian, the other was Buddhist. I never believed in any of that crap before, but when we are all...linked up...I became curious. I wanted to know more, and so did they. So we talked about religion.

Dr. ███: After your experience, would you consider converting to either religion?

D-Class-3: Naw naw, man, it wasn't like that. We all just kind of came to an understanding. We came to respect that we had different beliefs.

Dr. ███: Will you continue to degrade people with religious beliefs?

D-Class-3: Absolutely not. We all have different beliefs, but that doesn't shape who we are. We are all human beings on this planet, and we are all curious of what lies beyond it. We all just have different theories on what it might be. I understand that now.

<End Log, 2:47PM>

Experiment Log 1699-4: 6/29/███: Ten (10) D-Class personnel were selected for this testing. Subjects were positioned in a standing circle around SCP-1699. Upon inhalation of the smoke, all ten personnel fell to the ground screaming and clutching their heads. After six minutes and fourteen seconds (6:14), the personnel proceeded to dig their finger nails into their temples and scratch vigorously until blood was drawn. Using the aid of a gas mask, security personnel entered the testing room and extinguished the open flame. All ten personnel continued self-mutilation behavior until suicide was committed.

Experiment Log 1699-5: 10/05/███: SCP-131-A and SCP-131-B have been transported from Site 19 to be borrowed for this specific testing. One (1) female D-Class personnel was lead into the testing facility where SCP-1699, SCP-131-A, and SCP-131-B has been set up prior to experimentation. SCP-131-A and SCP-131-B greeted the D-Class personnel with a series of high-pitched babbles. Security personnel inserted an open flame into the base of SCP-1699, and swiftly left the room, shutting the air locked door. Upon inhalation of the smoke, the D-Class personnel crouched down more to the level of SCP-131-A and SCP-131-B, making direct eye contact. D-Class personnel proceeded to speak in a new and unidentified mixed language of broken English and high-pitched screams. SCP-131-A and SCP-131-B proceeded to babble in their unique language, breaking only to listen to the responses of the D-Class personnel. It appeared that D-Class personnel, SCP-131-A and SCP-131-B had successfully combined mind frames and were now communicating. It will be noted that SCP-131-A and SCP-131-B have no visible respiratory intakes, perplexing as to how they are being affected by the smoke emitted from SCP-1699. This has been noted and will be tested further. After approximately fifty-four (54) minutes, the flame inside of SCP-1699 extinguished. Exactly seven (7) minutes and twelve (12) seconds later, the smoke had dispersed and the effects of SCP-1699 had vanished. D-Class personnel then requested an additional flame and a longer testing time. The request was granted, and security personnel inserted a second flame. Upon inhalation of the new smoke, D-Class personnel and SCP-131-A and SCP-131-B continued conversing. This proceeded for five (5) hours and nineteen (19) minutes, with three (3) additional requests by D-class personnel for a new flame and longer testing time. D-Class personnel escorted herself out of the room. Upon immediate questioning, D-Class refused any commentary on the testing. She only had the following statement to provide;

"I've already spoken to the two most intelligent beings in this entire foundation. Speaking to anyone lesser will be a waste of my time."

"Submit a permission request to extend the borrowing period of SCP-131-A and SCP-131-B, I got some more theories I want to test." --Dr. █████████
I decided to make my own SCP for the SCP Foundation website. However, when I posted it, they all hated it and it was deleted in less than 12 hours. But my friends all love it and told me not to give up on it, so here it is for deviantART to see!

For those of you unfamiliar with the SCP Foundation, those black bars are censored information.

Also, again for those unfamiliar, here is the file on SCP-131-A and SCP-131-B. [link]

I would like to say I like how you added more context as to why they would cross test 1699 with 131.
